    Unknown - Inv. 28 Tap

The tapestry Baptism of Christ, produced in the workshops of Brussels in the early 16th century, belongs to a type of small textile pieces that deal with themes of an eminently religious nature.

Undoubtedly inspired by 15th-century Flemish paintings, this tapestry displays the customary compositional structure of that period: Christ, standing in the water of the River Jordan, flanked by St. John the Baptist and the Angel, is accompanied by the Eternal Father and the Holy Spirit, represented in the form of a dove. The narrow border is decorated with a repeated pattern of plant motifs, which was a typical feature of the Brussels workshops of that time.
