Time seems to come to a standstill in many museums, and the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga is just such a place. The museum is a space for visitor's memories, but also for those who work and breathe here. So who better to speak to the intimacy and emotions created within the spaces and among the artworks than the people who walk through the museum and look at them every day?
Over various months, and with the help of the entire museum staff, the spaces of the museum were identified by each of the people portrayed. While some had clear and defined ideas for their choice of the setting for their photograph, others were more hesitant and yet others somewhat haphazard. Some even felt feelings of rejection for some of the spaces in the museum. Each one told of their relationship with their works, their space, their time, and their memory. Each portrait is diferent; each is a relevation through the choices, memories and experiences of those portrayed. Among the works and traces of the passage of time that coexist in the museum, with these portraits, we invite you on a unique journey through the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga.
